In the heart of the Brooklyn neighborhood of Bay Ridge, a historic Lutheran church stands as a sanctuary for its community and a home for its diverse membership. Now, in this time of the pandemic, Good Shepherd Church has opened its doors to serve needs that go well beyond the spiritual. We now operate a food pantry that feeds hundreds of families every week and have hosted several vaccine clinics, providing vital protection to over 2,000 people, many of whom would have no other access. We practice the radical hospitality of Jesus by welcoming our refugees who are being bused to our city. We engage in practices wherein our families and youth are caught in the spirit of creativity through our art community programs.
We invite everyone from Bay Ridge and beyond to join us in our spiritual and public missions. Please donate as generously as you can and contact us with questions, ideas, and requests for prayers.
May the peace of God disturb you and may we bring consolation to those afflicted.
On Ash Wednesday we embark on our Journey of Lent. We will take on ancient practices, prayer, fasting and almsgiving, as we reconcile ourselves to God, ourselves and our world. Every Wednesday through lent we invite you to join us in prayer, be it physically or virtually. The Church will be open every from 10:00am to 2pm and 4pm to 8pm. We will be praying and collaborating closely with our Methodist brothers and sisters as we continue to be shaped as the disciples of the resurrection.
1I love the LORD, because he has heard my voice and my supplications. 2Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live. 3The snares of death encompassed me; the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me; I suffered distress and anguish. 4Then I called on the name of the LORD: "O LORD, I pray, save my life!" 5Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; our God is merciful. 6The LORD protects the simple; when I was brought low, he saved me. 7Return, O my soul, to your rest, for the LORD has dealt bountifully with you. 8For you have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling. 9I walk before the LORD in the land of the living.
